Have you ever watched a friend saber a bottle of sparkling wine? Did they saber the bottle properly, or did they get glass in the wine?
We spoke with our winery sommelier, Roy Froom, who walked us through exactly how to saber a bottle and why it is so important to follow the rules when it comes to sabering a glass bottle.
You have a 50-50 shot here. You either saber your bottle beautifully and are the star of the night, or you shatter the bottle, and have a sharp mess on your hands to clean, and even worse... wasted wine. I'd take the former over the latter anytime.
So, let's get down to the nitty-gritties. You are going to need a saber (or similarly shaped tool) and a bottle of sparkling wine and a large area to work. Now watch Roy, as he shares the seam that you need to look for which is the key to properly sabering the bottle in hand.
Remember, safety first! If you try this at home, make sure you have everyone stand back, and you find that seam. It is the very thing that will give you a successful sabering every time. If you decide to saber your bottle, share on social media and tag us! #closlachancewinery
